Hugo Teng: In memory of Teoh Beng Hock

Teoh is our brother who just passed away on 17 July 2009 during his detention with the Malaysian Anti-Corruction Committee (MACC). Lately, MAAC has been launching series of hostile investigation targeting the representatives of PAKATAN RAKYAT, the strong opposition alliance in Malaysia. Teoh is the political secretary of a state representative.

Malaysiakini: Pakatan seeks royal commission

Pakatan Rakyat has demanded a probe into the mysterious death of a political aide, who apparently plunged from the 14th floor of anti-corruption offices where he was being questioned.

Opposition figures expressed disbelief over the death of Teoh Beng Hock, 30, an assistant to a member of the state cabinet in Selangor, which is ruled by the Pakatan Rakyat opposition alliance.

Pakatan leader Anwar Ibrahim called for a royal commission to probe the incident, which he said was part of a pattern of government harassment.

"We don't see this as an isolated incident. This is a systematic attack on the Pakatan Rakyat," he told a crowd of several hundred who gathered outside the building where Teoh died.

Malaysiakini: Teoh's death shrouded in mystery

It is still a mystery for everyone as to how an aide of a Selangor state executive councillor, Teo Beng Hock could have plunged to his death from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Shah Alam.

No one saw the incident, said a top MACC official.

The absence of a close-circuit television (CCTV) in the commission may hamper investigators from finding out what had actually happened to Teo.

At a press conference held at the MACC office, the commission investigation division director Shukri Abdull told reporters that he was not aware of any CCTV in the building.
